A legacy that lives on
I have “I love you, I really, really love you” written on the window in my office in big blue letters.
There’s a calendar next to our teapot so Michael and I see a positive affirmation every day.
In our guest bathroom we have a laminated sign over the bath that reads: I am showered with good thoughts all day long.
We have one in our shower, too.
Three cases of calendars sit waiting to go into gift bags for our October retreat.
I’m kind and loving to myself in ways I never imagined I would be.
And when life gets hard, I remind myself that things will be okay by repeating:
All is well. Everything that’s happening supports my highest good. Out of this situation only good will come. I am safe.
All this and more thanks to Louise Hay.
This week marks the one-year anniversary of the passing of Louise. She was a remarkable woman with a big heart, a fierce spirit, and a determination to help others. Her work touched the lives of millions around the world.
I’m a grateful student of her teachings. When I’m worrying about something that hasn’t even happened yet, I can hear her telling me to stop scaring myself with my thoughts. Or when I’m in a bad mood and my day seems to be going downhill, I remember that I’ll feel better as soon as I reach for a good thought. And I no longer ruminate (for very long ) about bad experiences because, thanks to her, I’ve learned not to be curious about things that upset me.
This summer, I planted a pink dogwood tree in our backyard to honor Louise’s memory. Before she died she told me “When I leave the planet, plant a tree and sprinkle some of my ashes in the soil.” On the day the tree was installed, I was on the phone with Reid Tracy, the publisher of Hay House, talking about Louise when a hummingbird landed on one of the branches. Reid wasn’t surprised. He told me, “Louise loved hummingbirds.”
On Thursday, August 30th, I’ll light a candle and raise a glass to honor this woman who made a big difference in my life. And if she touched your life, too, I invite you to join me.
