Holiday Self Care 101

Oh my goodness, I have the best reason to be grateful this Thanksgiving.  Fourteen cats were adopted out on “Fur-Ever Home Friday,” (a new version of Black Friday) and because we’ve extended our offer to pay for adoptions, I’m sure by the time you read this newsletter we’ll have reached our goal of twenty!

(There’s still time to adopt your own angel after applying here).

Thank you for your help in spreading the word.  The shelter had a line of people waiting when they opened and when my donation partner, Karyn, from M.K. Benatti Jewelers and I visited the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society we had tears in our eyes as we watched people hugging their new cats while they completed the adoption process.

You can see some of the photos on the MRFRS Facebook Page here.

There is such joy and satisfaction in helping to enhance the lives of others.  All weekend long I imagined people setting up litter boxes, scratching posts and comfy beds, excited to welcome home their new companions.  To me, giving offers the best kind of holiday cheer.

Speaking of the holidays.  Now that we’re into the Christmas rush, it’s so important to practice good self-care.  To help you stay merry and bright, here are a few things to remember:

~*~ Plans change.  People disappoint.  Traditions expire.  Release your expectations for the holidays and be open to surprise.

~*~ Just because some people are fueled by drama doesn’t mean you have to attend the performance.

~*~ The calmer you are, the more time slows down, and the easier (and more joyful) it is to get everything done.

~*~ Your presence is the best gift of all.

~*~ Don’t try to please everyone.  Everyone is a whole lot of people.

~*~ Every time you hear “home for the holidays” let it remind you to come back to the comfort and joy of your own Presence.

As I read over this list, I’m making a note to print these out so I can keep them in view all month long.  You might want to do it, too .

Have a wonderful week!
