A Gift for Your Summer

The summer is here and I thought this blog from a few years ago would be a nice gift to make you smile.

~*~ A Trip Down Memory Lane ~*~

Every morning, I start my day with a ritual that feels good. I wake up, feed the cats, and head out to the deck to care for the birds and animals that share our yard. I fill the feeders and clean and refill the giant bowl that serves as a birdbath. As soon as I finish, the red-winged blackbirds, goldfinches, cardinals, and bluebirds swoop in for the feast. The squirrels and chipmunks stand guard at the edge of the woods, ready to pounce as soon as I’m out of sight. Then I stand inside and watch the beautiful chaos that ensues.

There’s something healing about caring for creatures – human and animal alike. We’re reminded that we can make our small corner of the world a little better and that caring is a form of therapy. It feels good to be kind.

Speaking of feeling good, I remember the night my husband, Michael, shared a video with me when I was feeling a bit melancholy. “You’re gonna love this,” he said in an uncharacteristically excited tone. “I promise, this will make you so happy!” It was a video of James Corden and Paul McCartney on Carpool Karaoke, and Michael was right. As I watched it, I couldn’t stop smiling.

This morning, after feeding the birds, I looked for a blog to publish today. After rewatching the Carpool Karaoke video, I decided to share it with you this week. It’s a fun trip down memory lane, and there’s also a sweet moment when Paul talks about a dream in which his deceased mother came to him to tell him everything would be okay. That dream inspired the song Let it Be. It’s such a beautiful, authentic moment between a young man and a wise elder.

Don’t worry if you’ve already seen this episode. I’ve watched it several times over the past few years, and it works its magic every time. I promise it will brighten your day!

You can find the episode here.

Love,

Cheryl
