Can one therapy session change your life?

My friend Kelly had been trying to get herself to paint for months. A watercolor artist who loved capturing nature scenes, she was blocked and couldn’t figure out why. After several frustrating attempts at making art, she reached out for help. “I found a therapist online,” she told me one afternoon during a visit. “She does something called Life Centered Therapy. It’s based on a book titled The One Hour Miracle, and it’s a pretty interesting read. You might want to check it out.” I jotted down the title and told Kelly I was eager to hear how her session went.

One week later, she checked back in. After uncovering a pattern of self-sabotage that began at age five following an experience with her mother, Kelly released her painter’s block in one session. “It’s strange,” she told me. “I’m not exactly sure how it happened, but all I know is I’ve been painting ever since.”

That’s when I ordered the book and started reading about Life Centered Therapy.

I am insatiably curious about what makes us humans tick, and I love learning about cutting-edge therapies that improve the quality of our lives. Halfway through The One Hour Miracle, my skepticism about the promise in the title eased, and I became intrigued by what the authors have accomplished. Dr. Andrew Hahn and Joan Beckett have developed a method that uses kinesiology (muscle testing) to help clients tap into their body’s wisdom to overcome issues like chronic pain, anxiety, depression, creative blocks, illness, and traumas, both big and small. Through muscle testing, they can identify the highest and best outcome of a session, the obstacles blocking that goal, the appropriate tools to overcome those obstacles, and the best way to use those tools for success—sometimes in a session or two.

Once I’d finished the book, I contacted Andrew to learn more. I wanted a first-hand experience, so I chose one of his trainers to help with the neck pain I’d had for a couple of months. Kathy, a seasoned therapist, agreed to work with me, and, sure enough, within one session, my neck pain was gone. And it’s been gone ever since.

The protocol Hahn and Beckett have created is unique. The process is designed to help the client listen thoughtfully to the body so it can reveal the healing needed to move forward. Once this information is received, the therapist can use muscle testing to determine the right technique to help – EMDR, tapping, creative visualization, regression therapy, etc. The process is challenging to describe in a short blog, so I’ve invited Andrew to join us for a Zoom gathering this week. I was particularly interested in sharing this work with you because the therapy can work rapidly (making it cost-effective) and is accessible. They’ve trained therapists who are available to work with clients either in person or over Zoom.

The world is a tough place right now, and it’s good to know about resources that can help ease our fear and anxiety. We’ll meet on Zoom this Wednesday (1/14) at 3pm ET/12 noon PT to learn more about Life Centered Therapy. If you’ve joined us before, you’ll automatically receive an invite. If not, you can sign up here. We’ll record the gathering (as we always do) and post it on the site the next day. You can find last week’s Zoom gathering here.

Love,
