How kindness holds the world together
Last week’s Zoom gathering was a celebration of community, connection, and kindness. If you’re feeling hopeless about the future, it’s worth a listen to remember that the world is filled with good people doing good things despite what you might see or hear in the news.

During our gathering, nearly 250 people joined me for a conversation about what it’s like to be on the receiving end of an act of kindness and to share how they’ve done the same for others. Some acts were modest – the touch of a hand at a difficult moment, the blessing of a dead animal on the side of the road, or a doctor who says “I’m always here for you,” after delivering a tough diagnosis. Other acts were more demanding – providing ongoing care for a loved one who is sick, shoveling a neighbor’s driveway without being asked, or sitting at the side of a friend going through chemotherapy treatments.
As I listened to people share and as I reviewed the comments in the chat, I thought about how acts of kindness toward strangers transcended race, region, religion, or party lines. No one asked about someone’s beliefs before giving them a ride to a gas station, paying for groceries, or offering a kind word. Instead, people were guided by their hearts and by our shared human need for help sometimes.
We have built a community of regenerative cells helping to heal the organism called humanity through acts of emotional generosity and solid, practical support. A band of angels disguised as humans, holding the world together with their good hearts.
I like that idea…
You can listen to the gathering and read about their kindness here.
Love,
Cheryl
