Monday, (5/18 at 9pm ET) is our monthly telegathering (instead of on Memorial Day) and I’ll be joined by Dr. Mona Lisa Schulz, author of “The Intuitive Advisor.” Mona Lisa is a brain scientist and medical intuitive, and she helps clients to understand the underlying causes of their illness. You can send a brief question by hitting reply to this newsletter (please put “telegathering” in the subject line). And to join us on the call, dial (646) 519-5883 and use pincode 2346# promptly at 9pm ET.
Last week I did a segment on Good Morning America called “Finding the Bright Side in a Recession,” about couples who are using these tough economic times to make their families stronger. You can see it here.
Follow me on Twitter (username: coachoncall) and on my Facebook page here. I’d love to connect with you in this new way.
Have a wonderful week!

Topic of the Week
Self Care Surprise
Lately I’ve been a bit busier than usual assessing new projects, giving interviews about “The Art of Extreme Self Care,” entering the world of social media (which I love), not to mention traveling and my ongoing writing and TV projects. After a conversation last week with a trusted advisor, I realized that I needed to put more support in place if I were going to be able to honor my health, my family, and the work priorities that are most important right now. This meant delegating some of the responsibilities that are not aligned with these priorities.
Now, I’m the first to admit that asking for or receiving help doesn’t come easy to me. The chapter in my new book called “Take Your Hands Off the Wheel” was written for and by me :). When it comes to delegating, I struggle with thoughts like, “It’s indulgent to pay someone to do grocery shopping, errands, or yard work. I should be able to do these things myself.” But one comment from my advisor shifted my perspective. “Ok, if you think God would rather you do the grocery shopping than your healing work in the world, keep doing those things. Otherwise, give someone a chance to earn some much-needed income by hiring people.” That’s all it took. I instantly made a decision to start delegating and, as soon as I did, life rose up to meet me. The resources I needed began to show up.
During a breakfast meeting, I happened to mention that I was looking for a handyman. No sooner were the words out of my mouth, when the woman sitting across from me pulled out her phone and gave me the number of someone she’s used for years. It took one conversation with the man to know he’d be perfect for the job.
Later in the day, while picking up a package from a friend, she happened to mention that she’d just hired a part time assistant through a terrific staffing agency who made the hiring process easy. I immediately recognized her comment as the Universe opening a door, and asked for the number. Once I arrived home I called the agency and set up a meeting to discuss my needs.
Finally, I’ve wanted to start a vegetable garden for a long time so we can begin the process of growing our own food. While sitting at my desk going through mail at the end of the same day, my cat, Poupon, knocked a stack of folders off my desk. When I stooped down to pick them up, I discovered a business card from a gardener whose work I admired at an expo several weeks earlier. I picked up the phone, dialed her number, and was greeted by a cheerful woman who said she’d love to help me get started.
Time and again I’ve seen things like this happen when clients choose to challenge outdated beliefs and take better care of themselves. Life rises up to meet them.
So, this week, what decision could you make that would inspire life to rise up and meet you? Maybe you’ll ask for help with completing your resume instead of procrastinating about getting it done. Or, maybe you’ll hire a housekeeper once a month for the heavy jobs so you can spend more quality time with your kids. If money is an issue, consider bartering for what you need. A recent caller to my radio show – a massage therapist – was excited by the possibility of trading massages for bookkeeping services. She couldn’t wait to put an end to the monthly frustration of paying her bills and balancing her accounts.
What if you knew for sure that life would rise up to meet you if you took a chance and asked for help? Try it and see what happens. Take this week’s challenge below.
Take Action Challenge
Choose one thing you’d like to delegate and make a decision to do something about it this week. Find someone to hire, or barter services if you can’t yet afford the support. To help you stay focused, print out the following affirmation and read it several times a day:
“The more I care for myself, the more I’m taken care of.”
