Topic of the Week
September 11th
In honor of the tenth anniversary of September 11th, I wanted to share a newsletter I wrote shortly after the event back in 2001. It’s an important reminder for today.

September 11th was a wake up call for us all. The magnitude of the tragedy has left so many people feeling out of control. As you continue to recover, one of the best ways to deal with these uncomfortable feelings is to consider the things you do have control over – what you do with your precious life.
If you’re like most people, you’ve already begun to seriously re-evaluate your priorities. You may be considering a job change or a whole career change. You might be reassessing your relationships to determine which ones nourish your well-being. Or, you might be reconsidering things like where you live.
This week I encourage you to use this event as an opportunity to reevaluate your priorities. To do this, answer the following questions:
- What was the first thing you thought about changing in your life immediately after the tragedy?
- What did you care about most?
- What was less important?
- What one thing on your “someday list” did you feel compelled to act on?
Once you answer these, ask yourself one final question:
What have I done about it?
As we’ve all learned by now, life is far too precious to keep putting off those activities and goals that matter most to your soul. Whether it’s taking the yoga class you’ve been longing to try, finding a therapist to help save your marriage, or getting a resume done to launch a new job, please honor your life (and those who lost theirs) by doing something this week!
